Lauren Folkerts for City Council
I’m lucky to live and work in Boulder – with its abundant natural beauty and thriving community – but I’m frustrated to see this same opportunity being held out of reach for so many.
The housing crisis, climate crisis, and social injustice are all inextricably linked, and how we deal with these issues will define our community for generations. These issues are not unique to our community, but what makes Boulder unique is an appetite for taking on big challenges. We need to both advocate for increased regional, state, and federal action, and simultaneously push solutions at the local level. We should not be a community that settles for mediocre achievement. In the words of Penfield Tate“ a measure of a great city and great country is not the size of it’s greenbelt, but by how it treats its people.”
Help me to make Boulder not just a good place to live, but a truly great city.
Lauren Folkerts on the Issues
“Lauren is smart and compassionate. She will lead with her values and help us move forward in the right direction.“
“I’m thrilled that Lauren will be bringing an Architect and Design Advisory Board lens to City Council. So much of our work is around thorny land use and built environment issues, and how these intersect with equity and community. Lauren will bring a unique and much needed perspective to Council’s consideration of these weighty issues!“
“I whole-heartedly endorse Lauren Folkerts for Boulder City Council. She has the skills we need to tackle Boulder’s big challenges — housing affordability, the climate crisis, social injustice and more. With her background as an architect, chair of the city’s Design Advisory Board and leader at the Colorado Green Building Guild she’ll be able to hit the ground running on day one. Please join me in supporting her campaign.“
“Lauren is an advocate for environmental responsibility both through her work as an architect, and through her volunteering efforts. She is currently the president elect of the Colorado Green Building Guild and chair of the City of Boulder’s Design Advisory Board. The combination of her board and professional experiences gives her extensive practical knowledge about how the city works, and insight into the challenges and opportunities our community faces. She views these challenges holistically and can be counted on to base her decisions on the merits of a proposal rather than on the source of the idea. Her goals are to make Boulder more equitable and sustainable by creating housing options for all, improving health and safety by filling gaps in social services, expanding transportation options, increasing government efficiency, and ensuring our open spaces are protected and maintained for generations of enjoyment. “
“Lauren is a talented architect who understands the importance of creating housing for young people and people of color. We need her on Council. She is a thoughtful and articulate woman of substance. We are lucky to have her in our community.“
“In my role on the Planning Board, I have been serving as the ex-officio liaison to the city’s Design Advisory Board (DAB). This has given me a chance to get to know Lauren Folkerts, who is chair of DAB, and to see how effectively she works collaboratively with other community leaders toward excellent public policy outcomes. Lauren’s experience as an architect will bring excellent perspectives to the council in areas that affect our built environment. She has a great eye for what makes neighborhoods inviting and walkable, and her insights into making communities more welcoming and inclusive inform everything that she does. As President Elect of the Colorado Green Building Guild, Lauren will be a leader in helping Boulder meet our Climate Action Plan goals.“
“We need a professional with progressive design credentials on City Council.“
“Lauren would make a great Council member. As an architect, she brings a much-needed visual sensibility, and she’s a strong environmentalist. She’s a champion of creative housing options. She chairs the City of Boulder’s Design Advisory Council and is a board member of the Green Building Guild.“
